Ari Lennox is a talented singer/songwriter out of Washington D.C. Before signing as the first lady of Dreamville Records, the 25 year-old made her debut singing the most creative covers on YouTube.
In 2014, after releasing an EP called Ariology, Dreamville rapper Omen reached out to Lennox. Later on, these two released the song "Sweat It Out," which got the attention of Dreamville Records' head executives J. Cole and Ibrahim "IB" Hamad. A year later, she and Cole met for the first time and in December it was announced that Lennox was an official member of the label roster.
Ari's newest single "Backseat" was already recorded before she met J Cole, so when they met up J Cole put his label-mate Cozz on the remix, the song had a mind of hits own and took off. She recently sat down with The Fader to talk about her musical influences and the people who have assisted in her growth and development as an artist. She even talks about her start on YouTube. You can listen to her extremely melodic voice on her upcoming EP titled Pho which drops October 21. In the mean time, check out the video above!
